I used to work at a Tanning Salon. Okay... If you have something Oct. 7, go on the 5th. The reason is because you want to give it enough time to set in and you want to shower before the event. Here's a schedule for you:
On Oct. 5th, take a hot shower and use an exfoliator. Make sure you really get on your arms and legs (those areas matter the most).
Then, go immediately to the salon. DO NOT lotion or wear any makeup. Wear clothes that are darker so you dont get stains on them. Depending on your skin color: light skin use a low level, and for tanner skin you can use a darker level.
When you get in, pull your hair back. Make sure that you use the lotion that they provide. The lotion acts as a sheild. Glop the lotion onto your hands and feet. If you dont do this, the spray tan will make your hands and feet orange and gross. Make sure you get the lotion all in between your fingers and toes and even your ankes.
After you spray tan, wipe off the "dew" it leaves behind with the towel that they provide you. Wipe off gently so there is no streaking. Then wipe off the lotion with the towel and then rub the lotion into your skin. (this is so some of the tanner can get on your hands and you dont look silly with white hands and feet).
Do not shower after!
The next day you can shower. The tan color may be dramatic and this is why you shower. Don't exfoliate and try not to rub it off when you get out of the shower. Only use extensive "rubbing off" if you are uneven in a certain area.
The next day is Oct. 7 and you can shower and get ready as normal.

This is the advice we would give to women who came in before their wedding and dances.

You can keep up your tan with Neutrogena mild tan lotion. Get the one that has the tint in it so you see where you apply.

My experience with spray on tans is after a week you start to look orange. So if you really want the spray on tan get it two days before. Also Nail anytime.
