Millipedes have two pairs of legs per body segment while centipedes have one pair of legs per segment. But various species of millipedes have very different numbers of body segments, and the total number of legs on a millipede can range from fewer than 20 to almost 200, depending on the species.

Unlike the name suggests they do not have 1000 legs. The rare species Illacme plenipes have up to 750. Common species have between 80 and 400 legs. they have 20 to 100 segments in their bodies. each segment except the head and the last segment has 2 pairs of legs.
