Having been in this business for many years, and having applied thoussands of gallons of paint, I use pressure washing for various reasons. To strip paint and clean before repainting.
That said, I stay away from widows as well as possible, and recaulk after.
Certainly if there is serious flaking, chipping peeling I also sand after the fact.
I also try to "wash" when I know there will be adequate time for the siding to dry completely before repainting.
I've "never" had a call back for any negative issues.
OK,,, For just doing a cleaning,,, it will be much the same,,, but I have never JUST CLEANED an exterior of a house, unless mold and staining from foliage was an issue.
Not knowing your house size, age, condition, or with respect,,,any issues you might have regarding areas that might leak,,, I charge from $25 to $40, per hour.

Yes, there are many companies that powerwash. I recently hired one who did the whole house for $275. They covered the bushes and plants to prevent the chemicals in the solution from desroying the foilage, etc. Everything looked new afterward.

No, but I've done it myself. I had to do it for painting the house, but it really did make things look better. I did the fence, and it looked much newer!

sometimes (especially if you yourself are handy) its easier and cheaper to do it yourself... unless you find someone who wont rip you off... most of the time you are going to get ripped off by anyone who does some type of in home service.
its really kind of easy to rent a power washer from your local hardware store... i have a lowes and a home depot about 3 minutes away from me.... its really easy..

We had the painter do it before he painted. It cleaned it up , but I guess I wouldn't spend the money if we weren't going to paint.
But I don't know how dirty your house is either.
