I just purchased a few things from a store in Orange County. I was just calculating all my costs and noticed that they're sales tax charged me incorrectly. The receipt states correctly that 7.750% should be taxed off the subtotal. But it actually charged 8.25% (which is LA's sales tax). My calculations were done with excel I double checked. Who should I report this to?

The store first, as others said. Then the State Board of Equalization. http://www.boe.ca.gov/sutax/faqusetax.htm

Contact the store. Also check for local taxes, some times a different county might have a different local sales tax, it is not always only a state tax.

I would contact the store first. They maybe have no idea this is going on and it could be an innocent mistake. If not contact your attourney general or local better business bureau. They may have more information.
