There are many vegetarian restuarants all over the island. I say visit Negril.

I consider myself a decent authority on Jamaica as I go there every year for a vacation around the holidays. If you are married and I assume "we" may be your other half, than go to Ocho Rios and do the all-inclusive resorts. There are lots of vegetable dishes there but I hope your palette is open to the way the food is seasoned. All-spice, cumin, and cloves are often used to season their vegetables. Jamaican people also aim to please so let someone know what you like and they will do the best to accomodate their guests.

If you're more of the adventurous type, I would do European style in Negril. I love the Samsara(on the cliff side of the island) and the Legend in Negril. There are also some Sandals resorts and Breezes there as well. In my opinion, the beach and water are more beautiful than the Mo Bay or Ocho. In MB and OR, there is a lot of seaweed shoreside, and in Negril you have endless white sand with no obstruction. But you are directly among the people, and for the faint of heart, it can be very intimidating. The men there are very aggressive and they love American and European women.

And no matter what you do, PLEASE, PLEASE do not go to Kingston. For anything...not even the sites!

Jamaica is a beautiful and friendly island with great culture and great people. Relaz and enjoy yourself.

E'eryting will be irie, mon!!!!

Have fun!!!

My wife and I were in Jamaica in July and loved it. Your being a vegitarian will not be a problem. As a matter of fact, Jamaica is lush with fruit that grows wild. Bananas are a common sight. Most Jamaicans, being poor, eat a vegitarian diet and one can live there comfortably by eating what grows alongside the road. We were at an all inclusive (Breezes Runaway Bay near Ocho Rios). A suggestions regarding resorts: decide what it is you want in one and go from there. Some of them cater to kids while others don't allow kids. Others are of the Hedonism variety. Also, some resorts are great for relaxation while others are party oriented. Some have great beaches while others have none. Resorts come in many varieties so it helps to know what you want. Another suggestion: Check out TripAdvisor.com for reviews on specific resorts and areas. Look in the forums section for very informative question and answer (like here).

I'm sure there are dishes for vegetarians but my sister only was in Negril, and she said not much, but better than nothing. I think for you and your significiant other (if you have one), go to Ohco Rios.
