If you are a registered childminder, which l expect you are, as l believe it is illegal to childmind without being registered, then you will have drawn up a contract/agreement where the parent has to give you notice if she wishes to terminate your arrangement. Whatever period of time for notice in the contract is what she now owes you( eg-2 weeks notice=2 weeks money) You should also be paid for the time they were on holiday, unless you made other arrangement for this. l would go to her home to see what the problem is and if that does not work, l would ask social services for their advice as to how to pursue what she owes you. lf you are not registered then there is nothing you can do really.

It sounds to me like either they decided to stay on holidays a week longer and you have nothing to worry about or she decided to send the girls somewhere else and is trying to avoid you because she is too embarrassed to say it to you! if she has sent them somewhere else you have to have been given notice after all it is a job and i hope you made up contracts and had them signed i fell into that trap when i was childminding, but found the contracts were a great help, if u need some advice on doing up a contract just send me a mail Ill find my address on the profile i will be happy to help you any way i can, good luck i hope it all works out for you and its all a misunderstanding!

I guess I would assume that the arrangements weren't working - for whatever reason- for the other parent and that they weren't coming back.

where has their mother taken them? Hmm. I guess it depends on what you think of the mother. Judgement call........Is the mother on benefits?
