RE:
What is the meaning of Das vi danya? Is there a romantic connection?

The Romantic connection is most likely from pop(ular) culture movies & books. ("Dr. Zhivago") (James Bond Girls)
Though Russian is not considered to be one of the 'Romance languages' by most,
it IS thought to be very Romantic sounding by most people foreign to the language (as was shown/spoken of in the movie, "A Fish called Wanda" by John Cleese. (source link)
"DasVi Danya" basically is 'goodbye', though I do not think it is that word-for-word. I think it is closer to something like, "until we meet again".
The Ukrainian pronunciation is similar: "Dobo-bah-cheenYa".
And Polish is "Dovi-sane-Ya".
This is not the correct spelling on any of them - just the English phonetic way (which clearly makes it more difficult to look up).

I always thought it meant something like "to your health" and is used as a toast. I tried really hard to find out, but had no luck. I know there's a site there somewhere, but was unable to get any results from the ones that I visited. It's quite possible that your spelling is incorrect. I tried several Russian-English dictionaries and got "not listed"....Sorry. However, in my search, I discovered that "hello" in Russian is "Zdravstvuite", pronounced Zz DRAST-vet-yah.
