Denis Hastert, Republican and Speaker of the House has known about the matter for 10 months and sat on it. Foley wasn't forced to resign because his was considered a safe district for Republicans and he promised to cease contact with the boy, He violated the promise. But, he should have been forced to resign much earlier, as it is, he party may not be able to replace him on the ballot. It was tried with Tom Delay in Houston when he resigned, saying he moved to another state, after he had all his troubles, but the court said his name couldn't be taken off the ballot. If the party cannot get him removed from the ballot, from their previous inaction in the matter, they deserve to lose the seat.

This was troubling.

Aside from the weirdness of his contact, he was running for a "safe" seat. Now with him out of the race there is a new battleground for control of the House of Representatives
