Dateline NBC - MSNBC. has disguised as 12-14 year girls invited many to have sex with them. Then they charged them with attempting to have sex with a minor. Actually why they are charged for when actually there is no minor exists? Is it fair to show them on the TV without hiding anything? Don't they find some one who really is making sex with a minor instead of who has not done it?

Can department stores be faulted for displaying merchandise in a very enticing (or inviting) way that will impulse a kleptomania to shoplift? As far as “no child” present during Dateline’s sting, they are not being charged for the “act” but the “intent.”

Although many states have laws that dictate that while your in the store and pocket an item, it’s enough to be charged with shoplifting or “concealed merchandise”. However, most store detectives wait until the suspect leave the store to have a better court case….a committed crime versus.

So, although I believe Dateline is using their sting as a form of “good TV,” I’m just hoping predators are deterred and think twice about accepting an inappropriate invitation.

I've thought about that too. But cops do it all the time, they pose as kids in chat rooms, then when someone in the chat room wants to meet the person, a cop goes and meets then arrests them. So, I guess it's the intent to commit a crime against a person. But, I'm not sure what they are charged with.

any affirmative attempt to solicit sex with a minor is punishable, and for a good reason. yes, it's fair to show them on TV - they made a choice to go there, nobody dragged them there or forced them to go there. free choice kinda sucks sometimes, doesn't it? but they made a choice, they suffer the consequences. child sexual predators are truly horrible human beings. catching these guys before they have chance to harm another child is a good thing.

I notice, however, that no police officers pose as 16 year-old pages in the House of Representatives or 12 year-old altar boys in the Catholic Church. It's probably not as compelling TV, is it?

Just showing up after having those conversations is the crime, it doesn't matter if it's a real kid or not. They can show them on tv because they come on to private property.
