I would say Artemis, she's caring, stands up for women and children, and is not afraid of anything. She also is great at shooting arrows. Plus she has the next best name to Aphrodite.

Hermes, the God of cleverness, is my favorite. He actually helps human beings out (in the latter early-Roman version, he marries a human, Psyche) and is the God of commerce, invention, theives, and the messenger of the other Gods. He's the only God with permission to go to and leave Hades, making him the God who alone is triumphant over grief and loss.
There's an excellent description of him on ppg 141-143 of Robert Bly's book "Iron John."

Athena, goddess of Wisdom. For one thing, I like that Wisdom is a woman (as is Justice - check any courthouse in the U.S.). So much for guys who say women are irrational "that time of the month." The Greeks apparently knew that a woman doesn't have to lose her reason because the hormones are fluctuating.
She burst fully formed from the head of Zeus - not the best Dad in the world, and hooray for Athena for visiting birth on a guy (I like men, as a rule, but let's face it - why should we have all the "fun"?).

Cronos was one of the most interesting since after he overthrew his own father Uranus - he didn't trust his own children and chose to eat them rather than chance them overthrowing him. Universal justice of course caught up to him when Zeus over threw him and became the head of the Greek Pantheon.

Goddess? Hekate, hands down. :-) And, of course, Aphrodite (aka Venus in Rome). :-) No favorite male Greek deity.
