My answer and those given before me run contrary to your encompassing question. There are a select few that much prefer to spell correctly in their replies while others don't care and make one excuse or the other in their defense.
It is not necessarily a generational difference as it is a care-less attitude toward projecting one's written word to be the best it can be.

Maybe because many of us don't have English as our first language. But on the other hand, I think many Americans can't spell their own language either ...

Too lazy. The Dumbing of America is right before your very eyes.
Case in point: "careless" has no hyphen. (see subsequent answer). Also, it should be "who," not "that" when talking about people. (A select few WHO prefer...)
