There is a surcharge if a letter weighing less than one ounce is larger than a standard letter-sized envelope. Taking it to the post office is the best solution unless you have an accurate scale. You can find rates at http://www.usps.com

"Typically, large envelopes are sent in an envelope large enough to fit an unfolded 8½” x 11” sheet of paper. Envelopes used for flat mail cannot be more than ¾” thick, 12” high, 15” long or weigh more than 13 ounces. The USPS considers any envelope bigger than this size to be a package, and will be subject to parcel prices. Pricing depends on the weight of the envelope with prices starting at $0.98 increasing by $0.22 for each additional ounce." http://www.stamps.com/usps/large-envelopes/

Weight. Not size. Probably want to use 2 stamps if you are sending more than 4-5 pages; or better yet take one sample to the post office and have them weight it and tell you how much it'll take to mail.

Go to the post office.
Ours has a machine you put your envelope on and enter zipcode.
It tells you how much it cost and you can put your credit card in and pay. A stamp is printed. stick it on and drop the package in the bin.
If you know how much it weighs, go to the usps website here:

Go directly to the closest Post Office as they will weigh each envelope and tell you postage needed, with Ur stamps or theirs...
