Baby food can be introduced at 6 months old. Until then the baby needs to just be on breastmilk or formula. Some docs will okay rice cereal when the baby is 4 months old. Introducing baby food too early can cause problems with digestion and allergies.

You should wait till she is 3 -4 months old to give her rice ceral and then any time after that you can start babyfood but introduce one babyfood a week. If your baby has any food allergy's then you will know what caused it. But it's your choice a doctor will tell you to wait till 3 months at least to introduce rice ceral.

Most baby's digestive systems aren't ready to handle baby food until 6 months.

Before that talk to your doctor.

I know someone that gave a young baby too much cereal and they practically went into a coma they were in such a deep sleep as their body tried to deal with the solid food instead of milk/formula.

Essentially it is up to YOU when you do feel your baby is ready for it. Check with your doc- mine said 6 months, but i started my baby on rice cereal at 4 months because he was a big boy. Or you could just try and start feeding it to him and see if he takes to it. I think they tell you to wait longer because of their digestive systems!!!!! Their little tummies can get pretty upset, or they might not have bowel movements as often as they should if their digestive system isn't ready.

That is too young.
It is usually about 6 months, some people start cereal earlier.
Talk to your doctor, see what his/her advice is. If I was you I'd wait at least another month.

Just another note, I have a cousin whom started her son on regular milk and cereal at 3 months. She was very young, and had no one around to give her advice. By the time he was 6 months old he weighted more than my 3 year old!!! I don't know if starting him on foods early had any thing to do with the weight gain, but I would assume it did.

If you feel like she isn't getting enough to eat, then talk to her ped. about it and see if they suggest you start her on cereal early. If she is getting enough to eat then wait. Keep her young, they grow fast enough as it is!!!!!

The public health department in my community, in cooperation with recommendations from the World Health Organization recommends nothing but breastmilk (or formula, if applicable) before 6 months of age. Also very important is that no baby should have any lactose (cow dairy products) before 1 year of age. For further information, refer to the W.H.O. website.

Pediatricians recommend them to be 6 months before you introduce baby food. And only give them one new thing at a time in case of an allergic reaction.
