I have had both chicken pox (as a child) and mumps (as an adult) and still had two kids so I would say the risk is small. However, mumps is the worst of the two and is the one that I always understood could in exceptional cases cause sterility.

I've not heard of chickenpox causing sterility in men, but it CAN be dangerous for pregnant women to be in contact with it, it can damage an unborn child.

Its the heat that causes men to become infertile, so if they have a really really high temparature then their balls get boiled. Chicken pox wouldn't cause it because most little children get chicken pox and it doesn't do any long term harm.
