no this is not a 'Jesus' question at all as someone put, leave religion out of it. I guess for some its easier if they know what kind of a person it was. Some try to think in hindsight that they or their future relations who yet don't exist is meant for something important, and you were meant to help them live. you might be nieve in thinking your life is more important than someone elses.

Last you said regardless who they were? I don't think I would do anything to save "Charles Mansion". But yes I would but it would be split second decision. Take the Air Florida crash a few years back in the Potomac River with water Temp. at 29 degrees. This one guy on the bank seen this lady trying to make it to shore but she could not. He dove into the icey waters and got her to shore.
And then there was this guy who was handing the life-line to other people instead of him getting in the seat. Yes the last one to survive was this lady that he handed the line to, and then he went beneath the surface. There is a memorial for him. They did find out his name from process of elimination...His family must be very proud. Maybe he had a wife and children that he was thinking of during this time. When the Titanic sunk in the North Atlantic temperature was 34 degrees. Life will seek to exist after twenty minutes....

Ridiculous question. I would try to save anyone I didn't know, but knowing I would die for a stranger what the hell for?

"Some try to think in hindsight that they or their future relations who yet don't exist is meant for something important"

-If they were smart they wouldn't stand in front of a f*cking bus or what-have-you.

"you might be nieve in thinking your life is more important than someone elses"

-All I'd know is I'm alive they are dead as a doornail. Survival of the fittest beyotch.

I would sacrifice myself for another, but definitely not ignoring who they are or what they have done.

Why would I save the life of a terrorist, if it only enabled them to bring destruction into the world and take the lives of others.

I don't like to judge anybody, recognizing that my intelligence is limited and I can never understand the full scope of design and consequence for any life. However, I cannot ethically sacrifice my life, which I believe can bring benefit to people, to save somebody who has ill intentions for the world.

Perhaps the context could be shifted, though, for an interesting mental exercise. By "save another", although you might not have had a religious intention behind this, it could be brought it. Am I saving their life, or perhaps their "soul" by offering them a chance for redemption with my sacrifice.

Man I love these open-ended questions. I believe it hinges on whether my sacrifice will offer a chance for those alive to live better, or be subjected to horror.

My answer is an emphatic "NO". I don't consider myself to be a bad person, very few people do. Furthermore, people are essentially ego-centric beings. Everything is viewed from an individuals perspective. To use a literary term, real life is a "First Person" narrative, always, colored by your own life and experiences. To carte blanche say you would sacrifice yourself, for another, in fact for ANY other, IS INSANE! What person in their right mind would willingly, nay gladly sacrifice their life for a Mark Carr, an Osama Bin Laden, or just the local crack cocaine dealer or child molester. Self-Preservation is the most base of all instincts until one has offspring at which point the perpetuation of the species is paramount.

I truly believe that our purpose on earth is to help others. This is how I maintain happiness in my life. If I become selfish, then I am never happy or satisfied, but seem to always want more, so I would have to say yes, if it is a matter of pushing someone from harms way. I would however not kill myself to better serve someone else, because that would contradict the whole process.

This is a " Jesus " question, isn't it? Very well, my answer is "no" because if my death cause the suffering of hundreds of other people ( like donating and organ to a suicide bomber ) then..well...it would be just wrong.

I would like to think yes, but lots of people say that and don't actually follow through. I think to a lot people who are religious consider it a "golden" ticket if you will, to the otherside.

Actually, I probably would if it was like, a hijacker on a plane or bus or something, but if it was to give up an organ or something similar, then no.

No. We only have one chance to live and you want me to sacrifice myself to a being that I do not even know? Nope, it is not worth it. Only if it was my children or something.
