NBC Undecided about "Windfall"? (UPDATED 9/21/2006)
EDIT: To anyone who's confused that this is some kind of an official press release: it's not. It's just my blog post here on TV.com.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the Television Critics Association press tour in July this year, NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly let out that Windfall "is done" (TVGuide.com's "The Ausiello Report", 07/24/2006). This sparked rumors among viewers that the show is cancelled although no official announcement has been made by the network.

But small blurbs about the show not getting renewed for a second season have been popping up in several places. On July 31st, Zap2it's columnist TVGal confirmed that "'Windfall' [...] was not picked up for a second season" as did the August 4th edition of TVGuide.com's "Ask Matt". According to TVRage, it was reported in TVGuide that "NBC has quietly let the cast/crew of the summer series 'Windfall' know that they will not be ordering any additional episodes of the series due to lackluster ratings" -- 'quietly' being the operative word here.

However, a recent interview (Starry Constellation Magazine 8/17/2006) with actress Nikki DeLoach, who plays Sunny on the show, says that NBC is still undecided on the show's fate: "We don't know yet exactly, we haven't heard from the real source. They haven't made a definite decision so there is still hope!"

Spurred by heavy advertising, the show opened to impressive ratings: it was the highest-rated debuting summer drama in six years. But ratings for later episodes have been fading fast and in that sense the show's chances for renewal are looking rather slim.

Stay tuned for news about the show's fate. The season finale, episode 1-13: Priceless, airs tonight.

EDIT 2: Apparently the front page of NBC.com promoted the episode as the "series finale".

EDIT 3: The futon critic also calls it series finale. At this point it looks like the show is cancelled.

EDIT 4: I had to remove all the links because apparently TV.com is so territorial that they do not allow any external links in editor's blogs.

EDIT 5: the futon critic has the show's status as "canceled/ended (2005-2006 season)". From now on, unless NBC makes an announcement that the show will be back, I'm treating it as cancelled.

EDIT 6 -- 9/21/2006:
NBC has taken off the link to the Windfall site, even though the site itself and the forum still exist on NBC.com. They've also removed the link *and* the series factsheet on nbcumv.com which is a information site geared for press audiences. I honestly don't think the network is even considering bringing the show back any more.

I'm pretty sure the story was resolved. I think it was on NBC and they just put it on as a filler show for the summer while the other shows were taking a break.

I think they decided to cancel it during the season, but there is a thing on NBC. com where you can add your name to a petition to get the show a return. Maybe it'll work?
