in a word-no-the only record of note that got thru to the yanks was the single"my ever changing moods"whilst weller was with the style council-its a real shame because the jam were and still are one of my favourite bands-during the early days of the jams career they tried several us tours and always came back disillussioned at the lukewarm response they got from audiences-weller was said to hate the tours and after a few attempts the band gave up completely on touring the states.in later years theyve warmed to him a bit more and hes a lot more popular there now than he ever was when with the jam or the style council.
hard to understand it really because if ever there was a band who were at their best playing live it was the jam-and weller would usually be at his best when up against it or angry about something-i guess that if he was playin to an audience of mid-western hicks and singing about the kids on the street of london he would be backing a loser from the start!
went to see weller fairly recently and hes lost none of his passion for live performance and the highlight of the evening was when he played an old jam live fave-in the crowd-i just closed my eyes and sang along to every word as loud as i could-took me right back to the days of the jam and their always brilliant live shows-have you got their box set"direction,reaction,creation"-its got everything they ever did plus a lot of fascinating demos and covers-one for the real fans i guess-but being one of those i just had to have it!!
keep the faith man-long live the jam!!!!

Yes they did, although it was mostly with the hipsters/mods at the time. Paul Weller went on to form The Style Council, which was considerably more popular with the new wave crowd in the early eighties.

No, I think they ended up preserving themselves for British tastes rather than spreading their talent too thinly...
