as far as i knew you could not just have a c-section if you wanted one, you have to have a reason, such as a previous c-section, labour not progressing after a certain amount of time of your water breaking....I myself have had all c-sections due to a septate uterus, almost appears as though there are two, but there is just enough space for baby's legs to wrap up and around. Yet not enough room for baby to turn around....
Someone else made a comment about once you have once c-section you always have to have one... NOT TRUE... there is such thing as VBAC, vaginal birth after C-section....depends on the resoning, but most women who need one only due to labour issues go on to have normal births. I on the other hand will never be able to.
If you do have the option of having a C rather than vaginal birth, I am not for it at all. I have had so many problems with it. And trust me, if you ever want your body back the way it once was, DO NOT HAVE A C-SECTION!!! it will ruin you. It damages alot of nerves that are crucial to the full recovery of your abdomen.....
Good luck in your birth, whichever what you should chose

C-sections on demand have been a lot more common lately. More and more doctors are suggesting them and more parents are "requesting them". Many doctors suggest them because they make more money for c-sections than they do for vaginal births because it's a surgery versus catching a baby that slips out. I have an 8 month old and I had him vaginally. I would never request a c-section for a number of reasons. First of all, even though we have great technology today there are still complications that can arise, a lot more than could with a vaginal birth. Vaginal is more natural. As you baby comes out the fluid remaining in his/her lungs gets pressed out, in a c-sectino they have to suction it out, which can pose risks. Also, it takes a LOT longer to heal from a c-section than it does from a vaginal birth. You will need a LOT more help around the house for a while because you'll be so much more sore. You probably don't want to be feeling ill the first few days your chld is born. I would go with vaginal. Good luck!

I think c-sections on demand are stupid. Once a female has a c-section, she has to continue to have them for the rest of her births. There is nothing wrong with a vaginal birth, if it is possible. That's the way nature intended babies to be born. Usually c-sections are done when the baby is too big or stuck or something is wrong. A c-section is considered a major surgery. Celebrities have c-sections because they can afford them and they don't want to stretch out their vaginas. This is so stupid (Britney Spears).

I dont understand why everyone seems to be getting these now. IF they are scared of vaginal birth b/c of the pain and tearing and all then dont have a baby. It just comes with the territory. I mean cutting into the ab muscles is not normal and with some women the after effects can be very damaging. Also, they must continue to have their babies this way. I think it shouldnt be offered unless there is a problem that would prohibit you to have vaginal birth or if the child was in immediate danger prior to delivering.

i had a "c-section on demand". my baby was large and i am not. and there was no sign of labor. i scheduled my c-section two weeks before my due date. i didn't want to go through 12 hours of labor, then a c-section like my sister or 24 hours of hard labor and then a c -section like my mother with me. i'm glad that i did it and do not regret it at all.
also, women do have vaginal births after a c-section quite often. and really does anyone need to call something stupid that they know nothing about? i think that is just rude.

Honestly? I think it's criminally stupid.
Stupid because an unecessary C-section puts you at unecessary risk. Anesthetic reaction, uncontrolled bleeding, future fertility problems . . . it has all the risks of any major abdominal surgery. A C-section can be a blessing when medically warranted, but that kind of situation only occurs in maybe 7% of births.
Criminal because it also puts your baby at risk. Labor helps prepare babies for birth -- contractions squeeze extra fluid out of their lungs so they can breathe well, a chemical reaction starts that tells their bodies to make the transition to life outside the womb -- and they lose that advantage when born by C-section without any labor first.
Throw in a longer recovery time for both mama and baby, the real possibility of your milk being delayed, and it just doesn't make sense to me. Why make things more difficult and dangerous?

Sorry Mommy227 but "slips out"? Maybe for - lucky - you hun...!
Before we had our first babies none of us could know what it was going to be like.
The truth is you can plan it like the military or think you can go with the flow - bottom line - and that's where it goes girls! - no one knows what's going to happen.
Caesarian births have saved the lives of many mothers and babies but it's difficult surgery. Recovery isn't easy either, especially when you have to care for an entirely dependent babe, take care of ALL his or her needs, and your own, and very often others.
For most of us it ain't like shellin' peas, however they get born.
And afterwards the really hard work starts!!!!

Childbirth is a horrible experience. If I decide to have a C-section, it is nobody's business but mine. Of course, knowing how nosy people are, they'll put their two cents worth in no matter what.

I think it's a bad idea. It's major surgery and the mother or the baby could be injured. It also takes much longer to recover from a c-section than a natural birth.

my advice to you is to have your baby naturally. recovery time is much less, there's much less risk to you & the baby, not to mention less expensive. the only way I would've had a c-section is if it was medically nessecary. Women seem to have forgotten our bodies (generally speaking) were built for this.
