She is 53 years old and bleaches her hair blonde every other month, it looks very ratty, and she refuses to cut it because she wants to grow it down to her hips, and dresses like me (I am 13), she wears tight graphic shirts and tight low rise jeans. How can I show her how to dress more her age? She listens to everything I have to say about makeup, but not really clothes.

NASTY!

But this is ironic. Usually it's the other way around, with moms and grandmas trying to get their teenage kids to dress more conservatively.

Well, you can't teach her to dress differently, she may like her style. 53 is hardly that old and all you can do is make suggestions. My mum is in her early 50's and dresses very trendy and bleaches her hair. She is currently growing her hair out (not to hip length though). Maybe you can go shopping together and you can point out some styles to her, as long as they are still trendy and something she would personally find appealling.

You can also buy a magazines with some hairstyles and maybe she can try a different cut and colour, something that will boost her confidence and make her feel trendy, but will make her hair look healthy and vibrant. HTH : )

Maybe she likes to dress like you because it makes her feel young and hip. Maybe she is just trying to dress more like the younger crowd because it makes her feel more fit in with the world the way it is today. I dont know really. You cant really teach her to dress more mature, maybe you can go shopping with her sometime and show her something that you feel would be more mature and really pretty on her and tell her what you think of it. I am sorry, I answered this the best way I could. Good luck with your situation.

She probably feels uncomfortable about growing older and feels like she's still 25 inside. How about getting some magazines of stylish adult women? Or...nominate her to be on What Not to Wear on TLC. Maybe they'll pick her to be on their show!

Call or go online to TLC and sign her up for What Not to Wear. Or some other shows like Oprah do this sort of show sometimes. She may not listen to you, but maybe she will listen to someone else. I hate when "mature" women dress inappropriately.

53 is to young to be considered so mature they can't look attractive and 13 is too young to be considered wise enough to lead a 53 year old.

is there any thing else she does that you don't like ?? Stay out late, drinks, smokes, has many boyfriends, You are lucky she is still alive. I lot of grandmothers are dead at 53.

Mind your own business.

You're probably just jealous because clothes probably look better on her than they do on you.

You can't tell someone how to dress, especially if you're the kid.

Make her watch "What Not To Wear" on TLC. Otherwise, leave her alone....it's your Granny for Christ's Sake! She probably doesn't agree with every decision you make either!

I would leave her alone. It is her right to dress and wear her hair as she pleases. And she is not that old to be wearing dowdy clothes.
