I've always had that question in me head. In the US if you don't listen to rock or hip hop you're pretty much a f.a.g. Why?

I listen to electronica religiously and i have a mad addiction to the females. Here in the states music usually has to be all about attitude and in your face hence the popularity of rap.

Chillout though is getting through and oddly enough due to advertising and tv placements. You turn on any show like Grey's Anatomy or ER and you're liable to hear some chillout also on commercials here too.

The electronica following here in America has always been strongly underground plus the fact individualism is not a prized trait here people would much rather follow the crowd or do what MTV says to do or give the cool label to whoever MTV tells them to.

It's funny when i hear people say "hey did you hear that song on that Budweiser commercial?" and i say yeah Chemical Brothers "Galvanize" they hear it's electronica or as they still call it "techno" and then "Oh we can't like that!"

Some people here think Ministry of Sound is a band but those of us who love electronic music here in the US kind of like the fact that we can talk about say..Tiesto and no one knows who we're talking about. Gives us a sense of exclusivity.

Oh yes Claire the origin of that word is obscure but it is not due to the burning of homosexuals that practice ended way before the word came into use.

the united kingdom through a hair. u.s. and the united kingdom take turns making the international's perfect music. American music reward from our rythym and British music reward from intensity. even as both marry, the outcome is regularly options blowing. imagine of the paintings of The Rolling Stones or The Moody Blues. who's making the perfect music suitable this very minute? i don't understand. in the present day's music is so undesirable, that that's not elementary to get previous the oldies station.

In America it's: R,R or R.

Rock, Rap or Religion.

Anything else it's like 'keep that sh1t underground, man'
It's very much MTV and radio driven and 'fad' orientated.

BTW, 'Techno' is the wrong term to use to describe electronic music globally eg, house.
Techno is an electronic, industrial style of music pioneered in Detroit. It has nothing to do with 'Technotronic' or 'Black Box' or any of that sh1te.

I don't understand why you put full stops in front of F.A.G. If your going to insult the gay community by using abusive language then at least do it correctly.

The reason *** is used as an insult is as they used to burn gay people on bundle of sticks for burning aka faggots.

As for the music part of your question, who cares what an ignorant thinks.

I know some alot of americans who produce electronica music...I like ragga Jungle..heavy d'nb and dark industrial electronica, may be you are thinking of HOUSE music which is totally gay.....no offence to gay people..my bruv goes to alot of house music clubs and they are mostly gay clubs. I think youare wrong in saying that...maybe you don't know enough about music...watched US life on TV or the movies (then again if youa re american apologies!)
There are many great elecronica djs out there, you gotta look for them thats all..they aren't mainsteam.

it's nightclub music to dance to it's not the sort of music we listen to every day, and it's generally easier to dance to than rock and hip hop. it's also non intellectual we rarely use dance music to make a point about society or anything...i don't know why more american's don't listen to it, it's not gay it's actually very enjoyable to listen to! yanks need to loosen up a little bit!

Maybe its because my musical tastes are old fashioned (Miles Davis is the epitome of cool) but it would seem to me that very very few songs made today aren't electronic.

So I must assume you are referring to a specific genre of music. In which case it might be a trend that has moved from the USA to Europe, or a European trend which has yet to move to the USA.

Why do the English think that wearing leather trousers is a thing only homosexuals do? In France it is quite acceptable for heterosexuals to do this. Sad isn't it? That society likes to sexually compartmentalise you according to your taste in clothes/music, whatever?

OK i will generalise here. the US have a very narrow minded view point of music, they are a bit like sheep, if no one they know likes that music then they wont like it. its not cool
However in the UK we are much more open minded and can appreciate good music whoever sings it and whatever genre, as long as its good, we dont care.
Music is much more open to all in the UK.
Why do you think the Scissor Sisters are so big here, but slated in their own country?
