Iv been with my guy for 4 yrs and i love him to pieces.... we live together and he tells me ho loves me and he'll pop the question " one of these days" should i leave the issue alone or what??? and how do you know if he really just loves you???

if he puts up with everything and he gets you stuff and he protects you and u always feel safe around him then you know the answer

My philosphy is "2 years to know". This isn't 100% since some people know right away. But the theory goes as follows. From the day you start to know eachother as more than friends. You have 2 years to figure out whether or not you know you want to marry the person. ( this out of the aspect of love since love is so complicated and multi-leveled) This does not mean that after 2 years you must get married this just means that after 2 years you know if the person that you have spent almost everyday with for the last 2 years is the person you want to marry. If you don't know for sure after 2 years if you want to marry this person it is 80% likely that you won't ever get married.
You can love him to death but that won't make him love you any more than he already does. Love can mean alot of things. e.g. I love my car, I love pizza, I love rainy nights in front of the fireplace. That fact of the matter is even though he might treaty you well and be a great guy if he isn't moving in the same direction as you are you gotta let him go. Be friends, be contacts ( try avoiding the Friends with Benifits scenario. It's more destructive than benificial ).
His procrastination for popping the question is just another sign that he's not looking at you as his wife. That doesn't mean he won't but sometimes men need a little nudge/incouragment. Another commenter said she sat her boyfriend of 5 years down and talked to him. That is a great suggestion. Explain to your man what you want. How it makes you feel. Explain to him that you are not going to sacrafice the family that you have always wanted another year. 4 years is a long time to wait for the " Big Question ".
In all fairness I would say talk to him and express yourself and how you feel about it. Then tell him it's either marrige or nothing at all. But if it were me. I would just boot him to the curb and say enough is enough. Good luck and I hope you find true love.

I was with my last boyfriend for almost 5 years. I wanted to get married and be a part of a family of my own. He wanted a girlfriend. One day, I finally had the big sit down talk with him and said look, I really want to be married, and share my life in a meaningful way with you and if you do, great, but if not, no hard feelings, but I can't stay with you. I wasn't satisfied just being his girlfriend, and we're friends still, but I am so happy I moved on because I have net the real man of my dreams, and I would have been settling had I married that last guy.

4 years is a big time...so stop thinking and starting working out ur relationships....doubts in a relation ship makes it narrower...please do what u need to do...and he'll do what he needs to do...ALL THE BEST

Tell him it is time to get married. Then you will know if he loves you or is just in it for what he can get out of it (Sex and a maid).
