It most certainly is a sport. It is very hard work.It is very demanding. Its not just about jumping around in a short skirt at a game. Its not just cheering,it involves gymnastics, and dance, and learning new cheers and chants and new stunts. And it doesn't stop when football or basketball season are over,There is cheer camp and even some competitions, its a year-round commitment.Anyone who doesn't think cheerleading is a sport obviously has never experienced it or tried-out for it.Also anyone who thinks Dance or gymnastics are for sissies has never taken a class.

of course it is a sport. It may not be a sport like people think, but if you are a good squad, and you keep in shape, exercise, go to camps, yes it is. How many people can launch a girl in the air where she can do a toe touch and then catch her as she falls? It takes work. I mean, are you talking about the "cheerleaders" for NFL football or what? Cause those are just dancers trying to look good. Real cheerleaders take their sport very seriously, the whole aspect of it, dance, cheer, routines, stunts... and what kind of "poses" do you mean?

I'm torn on the subject. Whereas there is no ball (not even a puck or stone) involved, cheerleaders have to keep their bodies in athletic shape to perform as they do (a good squad that is.) Cheerleaders definitely sustain injuries that require the same medical expertise as any player injured in a full-contact sport.
People can get a cheerleading scholarship to colleges.
But something inside me still rebels at calling it a full fledged sport. Since that something is probably just machismo, than my intellectual side would have to say that "yes" cheerleading is a sport.

I have always said it is a sport they train just as hard as the lets just say the football players not in the same way but just as hard. People who say it is not a sport are very uninformed.
