I would not go inside. I would go to a neighbors house and call the police. For all I know whoever kicked in the door could still be in the house. So I think it is safer to back off.

Just yell police really loud. Make the intruder think the police have arrived. Then hold your fingers in the shape of a gun and go in the house and around corners very slowly. When you see the intruder you dive behind a counter and curl up. Remember to keep your finger gun up and ready. Yell police again. By this time the intruder should have found a way out of the house. If not slowly pop your head out of your hiding spot, aim and shoot. Hopefully the intruder will play along and pretend to be shot. Make life fun.

I would never enter my home if the door was kicked in, I would call the police as the suspects could leave fingerprints on the doors and what not. You never know if that person is still inside.

Go to a safe location (a neighbor's house, a car, a nearby store, whatever) and call police (while en route, if you have a cell phone).
Many times there will be no physical danger to you. But you can't afford to take that chance, can you?
