The fact that it can be mean or inconsiderate doesn't mean they're saying something untrue. Find the reason behind the insult, find the possible true behind the aggressive manner and then you could really know how to feel.

I have a tough time not getting mad at people like that, but sometimes God uses me getting mad at them to remind me that maybe they are having a bad day, too. So if it is an occasional stranger type thing, maybe try to remind yourself that you don't know what just happened to them. Also, it is no fun to be mad, so if you can convince yourself that life would be better if you just ignored it (although that only works once in a while for me). If it is someone who is always mean to you, I guess just avoid them. Sorry I can't offer better help than that.

Try your best not to dwell on that person and what they are saying. Keep busy and if they do it to your face you might just have to say something back. It just depends on who it is. Is it a member of your family? Is it co-worker? A friend? I wouldn't let anyone make you a doormat........I don't care who it is. Remember you don't have to take any &hit from anyone. Please excuse the English. You are a human being just like they are and just be bolder and tell them this has got to stop, or you will choose not to be around them anymore!! Just remember don't let them see that this bothers you. That is adding fuel to the fire. Just like the guy below me said...," I just walk away and laugh". That is pretty good advice.

IF I am not too pissed off and can keep quiet, I smile back and say "Oh thank you so much, very nice of you, as usual" and I leave. People around generally laugh and the offender feels silly.

I say to myself : "This person is beneath me to resort to this kind of way to feel better about her\himself."

It's not the flawless way to make the situation better, but when you think about it, you will feel proud of yourself to not sink as low as this person had in retaliation.
