Ok, I am not doing this to sound racist..(although I'm sure it will...which if it is true I need to reevaluate myself.) Anway...do you think that differant races have different smells? Like..does an african american smell differance from an asian american and do they both smell differant from a native american or caucasion american. My friend (who is asian) says they do..but....I don't think that is PC. Your thoughts?

You can't really discern people's smells according to their races. I get where you're coming from though because I've come across people of different races who seem to have a distinct odor... but then I'll come across someone else who dispels that assumption. For instance, I know one East Indian guy who smells like cumin because he eats a lot of it in his diet, but then his brother who only eats burgers, steaks, etc. does not have that odor at all. My friend who is Chinese smells like Magnolia; she told me it is a popular fragrance among the Chinese. I can't stand it, but I've noticed other people mentioning they like the fragrance so they wouldn't mind smelling like that. Another friend who is Indonesian smells like incense because she is always burning incense, but then her brother smells like moist rice because he is always cooking. My other friend who is a Filipina smells like cotton candy. She says it's vanilla apricot but it smells like cotton candy to me. It all depends on diet, hygiene and fragrance of course.

I don't think its PC - but I think they do to a point...I think the different smells emanating from a person comes from what they eat. (different cultures, different foods, different smell). BTW I also don't think you're racist, you're not putting anyone down (if you had said a particular race smells horrible, that would be racist) you're just being curious. Keep asking, knowledge is power

Everyone has their own scent. We as Blacks always say when Whites sweat, they smell funny, like dog(not being mean, just answering the question. But, Black people we have issues too. If we aren't taking care of ourselves we have hair on our head that smells like sour milk(sorry my peeps). Then my friend once said a middle eastern dude smelled like sauerkraut. Every race has different smells. It's the truth, honey.

It has nothing to do with skin color. We are not biologically made to smell different. However, it does have to do with cultural difference. Like the food we eat, products we use, etc. So, it may appear that certain races smell certain ways. But, thats not really the case.

Well I've heard the stereotype that Caucasian's hair smell like a wet dog, I asked my white friend and she said when her hair is rained on then it'll smell like wet dog hair. I've heard nothing about other races, but I agree that its what you eat. Different cultures eat different food so it makes them smell different. I dont think you're racist for asking this question....just funny!

No evidence, whatsoever. However, people who live in a certain culture with like eating habits may have a similar odor. For example, I have been told that a pure vegetarian can claim to be able to tell a meat eater by odor.

Well I'm white and I was married to a mixed race man - primarily black...anyway, he only smelled different because of the product he used in his hair.

well, good question I think. Mostly people smell similar I think. Diet like eating lots of garlic can effect body smell. Also , age sex, exercising, many variables. Just make sure you like how your partner smells, whatever ethnicities. Or make him or her take a bath first.

I could care less about PC.
I've never noticed a difference.
Some white/black/yellow/brown americans smell the same offensive way.
Sometimes it's what they eat, sometimes it's because they've been working very hard, etc.
