Black + velvet, I do not think that is a good choice for end of October let alone a Saturday evening wedding. I have seen that one has to be careful with material and dress lengths coupled with time of year for weddings. Your dress seems more appropriate for a winter cocktail party.

What about something in brown or black in a different material? When I think of velvet, I think of December.

Maybe you can hit the racks in time for this event? With fall approaching adn the holidays areound the corner, new dresses will be hitting any day now. I saw an adorable black 3/4 sleeve calf length open tie wrap dress in Lord & Taylor the other day.

Also, The Limited had a few great black dresses for under $100. These could easily be dressed up for an evening wedding with makeup, hair, jewelry, bag and coat.

Hoep you have a great time!

NO, wear it with style.....find a lg sparkly broach, match it with a fall color scarve draped around your neck, across your chest and over your shoulders with the ends hanging in the back. The scarve will stay in place with the broach and a small pin at the at the left and right shoulders. If you go with the lg broach wear sparkly moderate size earrings, sparkly bracelet and sparkly ring. Or find a fall color scarve/wrap and wrap it around your shoulders. Or go the the floral dept at a craft store and purchase some nice fall floral blossoms/flowers cut the stems off and make a floral broach with floral tape and a safety pin. The fall floral colors are BEAUTIFUL. Whatever color scarve/wrap or flowers you choose find a satin purse in that color. Good luck and let me know how things turn out. You will look fabulous!!!!!

I'd hesitate to do it 'cause black and weddings don't usually go together... but if you could dress it up with some colorful jewelry that would definitely help.

I think it's considered bad form to wear black to a wedding, unless you are the bride and want a black theme.

Sounds fine to me. October isn't exactly summer. You could warm it up with a coloured handbag and shoes too.
