My answer will probably sound pretty stupid but ages ago I watched something on TV about it. I'm a bit vague now but apparently researchers found that sightings (many years ago) tended to coincide with the circus visiting the area. I don't know why the elephants would be in the loch, but apparently when they are in deep water they lift there trunks up to breath?? So you would only see the trunk, the top of the head and the top of the elephants back. Which looks like the descriptions of the loch ness monster. I may be wrong but I definitely saw it on TV.

The whole point of the mystery is that the only "proof" is a blurry picture! Of course it hasn't been caught!

And it's not the only attraction of Scotland by the way, the Lochness tourist center is just a bronze statue, a shop, boat ride and a lake. Scotland has much more to offer.
