Yes, most top restaurants serve tiny portions and you would need to buy a take away on your way home to feel like you have eaten.

Forgive him? I don't think there's anything to forgive.

If you don't think that's expensive or classy enough for you then move on. You'd be doing you and him a favor. It's more about the time and conversation, not the price tag on the food.
