I write in my journal regularly and don't use codes for people or salutations. I only write facts and stay away from feelings. I let people read my journal and consider it an open book that anyone can read if they want to. I use my Journal to record important life events rather than just writing secret feelings and hidden emotions.

I've written in a journal since I was old enough to write, and it's very helpful to me to put all my emotions down on paper, no matter what it's about. Sometimes I do use a form of 'code', if it's about someone who might read it. But all I do is say things like "People are......people do.... " I don't put he or she, so it would confuse anyone who would read it because they really don't know if I'm talking about a man or woman. And they may have their suspicions about it being about them, but they don't know for sure since I don't make any obvious reference about them in it.
Plus, when you get older it's fun to read back in all the journals and laugh at what you thought was so important back then.

Michelangelo wrote in a code in his journals and that is similar of the way that I write. Otherwise, you never know who is being "curious" to see what you are writing.

"Dear diary" in my opinion sounds sort of corny! I do mention names but i change tem.For example if i want to write....." Dear Diary, My dad is such an @$$ !" You should make up a name to replace "dad" like jim or charlie so if sum1 finds it, you wont get in trouble! Good luck! : )

Yes. I write to God in my journal all the time. I've been writing in journals since I was a teen and find it very helpful.

I write my journal in the form of poetry. I might not get to it every day, but when I get the time, there are many things that inspire me to write poetry.
