He held a classroom hostage. He dismissed most of the class and then held six. After molesting them, he released four. He raped two, shot and killed one plus himself.
Even before this, I have thought that we need to revise the way we treat psychotic individuals. Psychotic individuals can not make sound judgments They should be stablized and at that point, they should determine what should happen to themselves should they fall into a psychotic state at a later date. Based on that, society should base its treatment.
It is inhumane to let the psychotic person whose brain is simply malfunctioning wander around sick and without treatment just because the psychotic can not make rational decisions.
The famous Ed Koch did hospitalize one psychotic lady and the ACLU paraded her in front of the press after treatment and when she was healthy and complained of forced imprisonment. There were hundreds of people who saw her daily and could testify to her psychosis. If society lets the psychotic decide while the psychotic is healthy then at least you avoid this kind of problem.
