Depending on what it is that is making you unhappy I would not tell my boss.I would start looking for a new job. If your boss approached you and asked you if something was wrong then again depending on what it is you could tell him then. I keep a list of some of the things that happen at work that really bother me. Like other employees that give you misinformation, or go off on me about procedures that changed but i was never given a new protocol so how was I to know. Then at my review when they ask if I have anything to bring up I "bring it up". I recently had a few issues going on with a co worker and my boss could tell i wasn't my self. She approached me and I did not want to tell her. she finally figured it out and we were talking when this person came into the room. She looked at me and said "What!! you had to go running to the boss"Figures." The boss got made because she new I didn't do that. the boss spoke to both of us and some things were resolved but. That was the reason I didn't want to go to the boss. Then your labeled " the tattle tale" . Now if your problem doesn't have to do with work but is affecting your work then I think you should sit down with the boss and explain why you haven't been your self lately. If your proformance is dropping at least they will have an explanation as to why.

If it's something to do with the type of work you do, speak to your boss. Let them know that you feel that you could be a better employer in a different position utilizing your strengths a little better.

By communicating with your boss in a friendly manner you are letting him/her know that you are a dedicated employee but what you are doing simply is not the right fit for you. Rather than you leaving the company, you still want to contribute.

take it from my past experience. I was not happy at work. so i let the vp know about it. I was in upper managment, and I did not like some things that were going on. Well I was then labeled by the company as a troubler maker. The vp told everyone what i had confrontered her about. Soon an email went out to everyone in upper management. I was black listed by the company I worked for. I wish now i would have kept my mouth shut and just dealt with it on my own in my own way.

Sure, communication is usually a good thing. But be smart about it. If you're going to talk to your boss about a problem, be sure you've considered a solution. Just saying you're unhappy won't get you anywhere-- tell your boss what would make you a better worker.

Telling your boss your not happy will only put doubts in his head about your work performance. Remember you Boss is not your friend, and could probably care less if your happy or not.

If there is something going on at work that is making you unhappy, I would probably speak to the boss.If your unhappy at work because you just don't like what your doing anymore, then I would just keep quiet and look for another job.

If you are unhappy with your job, i believe you should start seeking another job asap and do not speak to your boss about it. They may assume you might want to leave and just fire you.

Just get a new job in a field you want to go into.

Everyone should enjoy what they're doing. You should take your boss aside and talk. Ask him if there's any other thing you can to at work than what you're doing now.
