I have 2 female betta fish in a 2 1/2 gal aquarium. They both spend alot of time at the top right corner of the aquarium attached together and staying still(playing dead ) . They seem to rub each other all the time (not aggresively but friendly) and spend hours attached together. Is this normal? Sometimes they separate and hide but mostly they stay together and hardly move. Are they sick or dying?

Can be normal, but check the temperature to make sure it is not too extreme.

Are you sure you have two females? Males have long fins and females have shorter ones. It sounds like they are mating if this is the case. Also males are brighter in color than the females. I have always been told that you shouldn't have two bettas in the same bowl. There other name is the Siamese fighting fish; they are very agressive toward each other and other fish. About the only thing you can put in a bowl with them is an African Dwarf Frog. When you do put a male and female together, immediatley after mating, you should seperate them again and the male will be the one to carry and release the eggs.

some bettas prefer to take a seat down on issues. like the right of the thermometer. you didnt communicate approximately your water circumstances or temp. so no person can extremely answer your question. i dont think of that's nitrites or nitrates because of the fact that's only one fish and that they dont make adequate waste to poison the water with ammonia or something.

Well either you are mistaking aggression for being friendly, or they are gay. Honestly my girls hang out together a lot, but they are generally posturing in a mildly agressive manner to each other.

All i know is that even female bettas shouldn't be kept together especially in such a small space. you should do something or they are going to die.
