I live in Brooklyn and have made the trip a lot of times. The best thing to do is get a cab. There is a taxi line right outside as soon as you exit. The only thing is that it will probably cost you 30-40 bucks to get into Brooklyn.

The other option is the subway. There are exits to the subway right inside Penn Station, so you can follow the signs to the Brooklyn-bound trains. Find out which subway line and station is closest to your dad, then ask information at Penn station (very helpful) which trains go there.

If all else fails, just ask someone in Penn Station. Everyone in NY gives subway advice.

After you get to Penn, take the subway. Ask an attendent for the best line to take depending on where your dad lives. Not a big problem.
