they probably saw a lousy beaver eat it, and then mimicked it. our entire culture has been built on mimicking beavers

They probably saw a bird or some other animal eating an egg & that gave them the idea. But here's one for you....how did the first person to eat a crab get the idea? Saw one running around on the beach & though 'food'? Whoa. Just imagine if it was before the advent of tools. How long do you suppose it took him to get the dang thing cracked? lol

i doubt they saw where it came from. seriously, who would think to eat something that just came out of a chicken's @ss?!

I think they noticed how different it looked from the other stuff coming from the birds and decided it looked novel and interesting, so they tried to figure out what to do with it and it turned out to be edible.
