Actually it's the more that people THINK that they know. The people who really know quite a bit and are really intelligent hopefully are aware that no matter how much they know or how bright that they are they know only a fraction of all that there is to know and any bright person knows there are always people brighter than themselves and how bright a person seems depends a lot on the topic at hand.

when knowledge increases ignorance decreases. if anything knowledge gained opens your mind. it's when people decide they've learned enough that they become closed-minded.
