I am the voice of dissent!

Ivy and vines will do as much damage to the wall as the weather will. Check out this web site www.premiumplants.net
They have done some great studies on the effects of vines on structures.

I hope that this helps
Good luck-

Yes, as the ivy will continue to dig its roots into the structure, destroying it slowly.

The feelers on the plant will invade any small crack or crevice and over time can do damage as the penetrated crack allows more water and debris to cause further damage to the area.
May take lots of time to do it but, yeah.

If it's a true ivy, then no.
However, you're indicating it was planted or grew too close to the base of the wall.
In your case, it will continue to erode the wall.
This would be true of any vine, bush or tree that grew too close to a structure.
