In a civilized society we deplore all systems that judge individuals by sex, skin color, religion, national origin, or other accidents of birth. Yet astrologers boast that they can evaluate people based on another accident of birth - the positions of celestial objects. Isn't refusing to date a Leo or hire a Virgo as bad as refusing to date a Catholic or hire a black person?

Interesting answers so far.
To those that think astrology is a science you are wrong. Science is base on observation. Any hypothesis is subject to testing and the tests on astrology failed all of the time. An art? That's a first. I always thought it was for predictions of the future. Is there a gallery or a publication on this art. What is the medium? Sound or vision? Anyway why not use astrology in the business world if it makes sense to hire the Aries over a Libra with better work record?

Actually, I would have to say, I agree with you.
I've seen many personal ads where someone will indicate explicitly that they are interested in meeting you if you are a certain astrological sign.

Astrology is not limited to just the 12 Sun Signs you are referring to. It’s much more complex and it takes years to shape a good Astrologer.

Studying Astrology gives you a powerful insight and understanding of personal potential, which can enable you to make the best informed decision regarding most matters.

Whether you are black, white, yellow, tall, short, fat, thin, Catholic, Muslim, Christian or Buddhist, if you are very generous with your money, perhaps you wouldn’t be the best person to look after a company’s finances?! In the same way, if you are looking for a playful partner, you wouldn’t necessarily go for somebody who is slow, steady and super reliable?! It’s all about the potential and making the best informed decisions.

In the same way Meteorology looks to history to predict the future weather and the way a Psychologist builds a person’s profile, Astrology uses a similar approach. It gives you the insight and added information. Psychological tests have been used in business for quite a while now. In the same way Astrology is used as a foundation for personality analysis.

No We Shouldn't Discrimate, By Our Astronomical Signs, Let's Say an Aries Like Me Would Date a Leo over a Virgo, Or Hire a Libra over a Cancer.

Do You call that Discrimation Or a Wise Decision on Your Own Part.

Only if you take astrology that seriously, instead of as a harmless game of trivia. I just like to dabble in it because it's fun, but I wouldn't refuse to date or hire someone because of what their planets represent. That's like a fight breaking out at a Star Trek convention between the people dressed as Klingons and the ones dressed as Vulcans.

Shouldn't we condemn math as a form of bigotry?
Shouldn't we condemn chemistry as a form of bigotry?

Astrology is a science, it doesn't discriminate and is helpful for knowing what comes natural to you and as a rough guide to do things you might be unsure of. As long as you use reliable and straightforward methods instead of celebrity magazines and fakers, then it might give you a positive outlook in your overall life. Anyone can find out about their birth chart, etc... so it's not even exclusive. I hope this answers your question.

They don't "evaluate" or "judge" through astrology, only give you insight to your personality and possible struggles. It's completely up to you what you do with your predispositions. Obviously you have very little understanding of REAL astrology. By the way, Cosmo is not real astrology.

are you serious?

everytime you look at a person there's an innate, unconscious proccess in which you size them up as a potential mating partner. that's just plain ol' biology.

so does that make you a bigot 'cause you prefer guys with brown hair, a hair-free back and is tall? because you prefer guys (or girls) at all?

astrology is not a science, it's an art. and if you really take it that seriously, you're bound to be influenced by someone or something else just as easily.

As a form of idiocy, maybe. But it doesn't even scratch the surface of bigotry. Trust me.

Shoudn't we teach astrology as science? Since astronomy is really just a theory? and so is astrology?
