in response to macaw your spider "freakout" is nothing compared to how freaked out i got when i finished washing my hands and went to open the bathroom door, on it was a spider problably smaller than my thumb nail, i ran back to the toilet and started crying because i could see the spider moving up and down and jumping sometimes, anyways i was stuck in the bathroom for about 30 minutes til my dad came and rescued me, he couldnt find it though, i dont go in that bathroom anymore

If there were no spiders, would insects rule the world?

Kelly V, seriously your advise is "Go to the pet store, buy a spider and feed it....you have to get over your phobia"? What phobias do you have?
I have arachnophobia, because of my brother teasing me with daddy longlegs as a kid! He used to say "they were going to get me or bite me". It was his way of getting rid of his kid sister probably so he could drink or smoke. I’m sure he didn’t think he would create this phobia for me. In fact, I don’t even really remember him doing this. It’s my other siblings who told me. It wasn’t till then I understood WHY I was so afraid of spiders.
But NOW I'm so afraid of them. I have gotten better, but just 2 nights ago I went to pick up a medicine bottle on my bed and when I did I saw something dark. I had only my bed lamp on so it was harder to see. I went to turn my room light on and sure enough HUGE spider which was bigger than a silver dollar. I tried to kill it, but I kept jumping back and freaking out. Literally starting to cry and have a panic attack. My mom woke up and she killed it, but even SHE said it was pretty fricken big!
Actually it has been many years since a spider has even made me cry. Sad I know.....but that is how my mind just is. I think it was because it was 1/2 inch away from me when I picked up the bottle and that it was on my bed and I was minutes from getting into bed. I spent the next hour vacuuming, spraying stuff outside my window, etc. It was the only way I was able to sleep and even after all that I still ended up waking up a lot throughout the night. I was still pretty jumpy in the morning to.
I agree that sure it would be great to get over a phobia, but it is a little easier said than done.
Aside for the artic, there is no other place. In fact the "No spiders in the Caribbean" is absolutely incorrect. I go to the Caribbean 1 - 2 times a year and just last year saw a really nasty looking spider like one I had never seen before. It would be great IF there were none there, but there are! Sorry.

Spiders live in almost every habitat on earth. The only places where there are no spiders are the polar regions, the highest mountains and the oceans.

You have to learn that spiders are not so bad...
Go to a pet store and buy a spider and feed it and learn to like it.
You need to overcome your phobia. Spiders are important little insects.. And their web making is fascinating..they are truly design artist..you could learn allot watching something so small as a spider!

Well... spiders live on every continent except the Poles. You can either move on a yacht and live on the water or move to Antarctica to get rid of them...

Do you know my boyfriend somehow? He is totally against there existance and screams like a little girl when they hang down too close to him. Once he ran out the door like a mad man because one touched him. He said try Antartica. Too cold for them to survive and no bugs to eat. :)

The whole world has spiders, but here in UK, we don't have any poisonous ones. Unless someone has imported and released them into the countryside.

Polar regions?
I used to hate them too.
But they are creatures who share the planet with us. They don't hate you and don't want to hurt you.
Don't say they are ugly, because they were created that way - it's not their choice or desire to scare you!
Again, I used to be very frightened of them, but now I feel happy when I see one, even in my bedroom. They are part of the whole picture. they tolerate us! Try to tolerate them. Nature is beautiful.
Peace.
