Cuba is a soverign independent nation. Like the US, it is a republic and has a Pres.(Castro) not a P.M
The people of Cuba are far better off in spite of US oppression than any other latin American nation.
When Hurricane Katrina ripped through the southern United States in August 2005, the authorities were overwhelmed and the governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, appealed to the international community for emergency medical aid. The Cuban government immediately offered assistance to New Orleans and to the states of Mississippi and Alabama, also affected by the storm, and promised that within 48 hours 1,600 doctors, trained to deal with such catastrophes, would arrive with all the necessary equipment plus 36 tonnes of medical supplies. This offer, and another made directly to President George Bush, went unanswered. In the catastrophe at least 1,800 people, most of them poor, died for lack of aid and treatment.
The American belief is better dead than red. They are p*ssed off because Castro would not let the Cuban mafia and American crime syndicates run the country and sent them packing, mostly to Miami. Cuba is a Socialist country, not communist. Incorrectly "Communism " is associated with the old USSR , and China, which is one of the US's greatest trading partners. Both those countries were, and China still is a Totalatarian Dictatorship but that's OK with Americans.
Cuba has assumed the leadership of the Non-Aligned Movement after being elected to direct that 116-country organization for the next three years.
A few months ago, Cuba was supported in its bid to join the new UN Human Rights Council by 135 countries Last November, a Cuban motion at the UN General Assembly to condemn the U.S. embargo of that country was supported by 182 countries. Only four (the United States, Israel, Palau and the Marshall Islands) voted against
As you can easily see Cuba has the support of most countries in the world.
I've vacationed there twice, love it. A young friend of mine fell off a 3rd floor balcony and spent 4 days in hosp. broken collar bone and minor cuts and bruises. He said the service was far above par, but due to the US blokeade the equipment was pretty old. His bill $400. which was paid by our Med Ins.Plan. here in Canada.
If you ever want to visit, since your government, like the old USSR government forbad it's citizens from travelling
for fear they may learn the truth, You can either come ToCanada or Mexico and fly from there. Many US people do. Cuban auth. will not stamp your passport because they know you are forbidden to visit so they give you a visitors permit and you just keep it in your PP.

Yes, it is an independent country. But it's image has always been blurred by the media in the United States. Their head of the state is Fiedel Castro and has been for very long now. Recently, what brought it to the spotlight was the conference of NAM (Non Alligned Countries) conference. About 55 heads of the states from all over the world attended the conference. It isn't that bad a country. Every nation has the right to fight for its sovereignty and values.

Cuba is a socialist state, and the leader of the country is a Dictator, by the name of Fidel Castro. It is a very poor third world country, that until the fall of the Soviet Union , it was supported by the Kremlin as a Soviet satellite. economically and militarily. Since the fall of the Soviet Union things in Cuba have gone from bad to worse. Fidel Castro is now very old and ill. Thee are many Cubans in the U.S.A. waiting to go back as soon as his dictatorship ends. It is a beautiful island country, and before Castro it was a favorite tourist mecca for Americans, and Europeans.

Yes and it does not have a prime minister. It has a president, Fidel Castro...many see him as a dictator. He was not always considered so. He is also the longest reigning leader of any country.
