I am looking in to purchasing a fire safe for my home. What I do wonder though is, where is the best/ safest place to put the safe within the home? I have two stories in my house if that makes a difference.

Thank you!

A fire safe, by its very nature will protect it from most disasters that can happen to your home.

If you worry about someone stealing it, you know you home best, hide it somewhere.

Honestly though, I think they highest risk is that you will not remember will you put it, or after a few years, that you even have one. Just stick it in a closet where you keep your clothes, somewhere unobtrusive but where you will see it on occasion; hiding it in the deepest darkest corner of your attic/basement is not a good idea.

if you ever need to remove the safe quickly, having it downstairs will make it much easier. however, this also makes the safe more vulnerable to theft, since most thieves would rather steal the entire safe and bust it open later.

hiding it upstairs makes it more difficult to remove, since they will most likely NOT throw it out a window, in order to avoid making noise and possibly damaging the contents. in the closet is very obvious, as is under the bed. try finding something more discrete and original, if possible.

I would place it downstairs (heat rises) and bolted with lag screws to a main household member from the inside or to the floor if you have a cement slab so it can't be taken easily. They will adequtley protect your documents from a fire quite easily.
