my dr told me that i cant eat any cheese that is "raw", im assuming that means unpasturized, like some mexican cheeses, and soft spreadable cheese, but what if the package says that it is pasturized??? like brie that has been pasturized? or goat cheese that has been pasturized? or queso fresca that has been pasturized?? all of which are in the original makers wrapping?? do you think that is ok???

i mean what did women do before we pasturized all of our dairy? people still had babies... is unpasturized cheese really that bad?

If the cheese is pasturized, it is fine. The reason we can't eat unpasturized cheeses is that they can contain certain bacteria that, while fairly benign for most adults, can cause serious complecations for a developping fetus. The pasturized cheeses do not contain that bacteria and will not hurt you or your baby.

No its not bad. Its just that the bacteria in cheeses can go unchecked and pregnant woman are especially at risk of contracting illnesses, since those illnesses can effect the unborn they suggest you avoid them.

Ive eaten feta through out my entire pregnancy, my mother did the same with different cheeses and even sea food.

You're right, just a few decades ago women were eating all sorts of food without preservatives or without pastorization, even without plastic wrap.

I'd say stay safe, eat the pastorized stuff, and just be smart. Women have been having babies for eons, while the processes of handling and packaging food has changed and we do need to take caution, theres less risk these days than there was before.

Go to mexico. See how they buy food. God knows they have no problem procreating. :)

pasturized cheese is fine. they tell you not to eat raw cheeses because of the rare chance that the wrong kinds of bacteria are growing in them. Now days we're a lot more sanitary when it comes to foods so theres less to worry about, but they tell you this to be safe instead of sorry!

Pastuerized is fine. Also make sure any juice or milk you buy is pastuerized. Most of what is sold at grocery stores is.

The problem with unpastuerized is the risk of Listeria, a bacterial infection, which pregnant women (and their unborn babies) are at high risk. Also you should cook all lunchmeat until it is steaming.

Please print out and review the fact sheet from the federal government about listeria. It gives great info.
