my chucks list it as eiphnh on the inside but on the outside they have it as elpnvn.

From this is derived the name Irene.

In Greek capitals it looks like this ΕΙΡΗΝΗ ,which may explain the variations. Capital eta looks like H and small eta looks a bit like n (η). Capital nu looks the same as our N but the small version looks like v.

I am commenting from the Ancient Greek perspective, though the word looks the same in the Modern version.
Pronunciation of the initial vowel sounds in the old form would have been more like ei as in eight. The other two sounded like e as in where.
