I interviewed for a job two weeks ago. They seemed to be very interested in me, and said they would call me back in a week or so for a second interview. I have not heard back from them, nor have I got a rejection letter. What should I think or do?

This is a very professional job and would not be like them to just not contact me either way.

Write them or call and see if there are any follow up issues that you can clarify. Reality happens in business and it could be that the headcount was frozen, or other issues...
"A week or so..." isn't exactly a concrete time... two weeks is on the outside of it, but not bad. Still, I'd email 'em. You got nothing to lose

I would call them. They gave you a time frame and the time frame has passed. You want them to know you are interested in this position. Since the time frame has passed but is somewhat flexible, I would have no reservations in calling them up and leaving a message. Sometimes, the recruiting process is slow..or they had many candidates to interview first round..or they got busy. It could be a number of reasons. You could e-mail..but I honestly think it is too passive since they told you they wanted to give you a second interview. If they ask why you called, you could just say your schedule is somewhat busy and you need an update on your status.
Good luck!

What you could do is write them a thank you letter, hand written is best, thanking them for the opportunity to interview with them.
Then recapitulate the skills and strengths that you feel would make you a valuable contributor, and end with something like, I hope that you are still seriously considering me as a candidate for such and such a position, and that you would be happy to re-interview with them .

At this point it doesn't mean anything. If you haven't heard anything in a week or so, I would send an email to your contact (rather than a call) thanking him for his time and letting him know that you are still interested.
Under no circumstances should you mention that you expected a call or that you want to know why they haven't called.
