I was walking down the road walking my dog, Beethoven, with my friend, Judy. We were gabbing about typical girl stuff and I was telling her about my boyfriend who broke up with me the night before and I started to cry. Judy tried to cheer me up so she told my dog, "Roll over, Beethoven", but Beethoven wasn't in the mood. So Judy said "Now it's Judy's turn to cry" and told me about her boyfriend who she found out is cheating on her. And she started to cry. All of a sudden, we saw this car crash into a tree just a few yards from where we had stopped. We hurried over and saw that there was a man hurt in the car. Judy called 911 while I went to see if I could help the poor man. He was bad off. When he saw me, he cried "Help!". I told him an ambulance was on the way and to hang on. I sat by him and held him as a tried to comfort him. I asked if there was anything he needed. He said "Laura, sweetie, love me tender". I told him I wasn't Laura and he told me that Laura was his fiance. All of a sudden his face contorted in pain and he told me he didn't think he could hang on until the ambulance got there. He got this faraway look in his eyes and told me he saw a stairway to Heaven and he had to go. I told him to hang on for Laura and he gazed deep into my eyes, grasped my hand and whispered "Tell Laura I love her" and then as his hand slipped slowly from my grasp, he slipped ever so gently away. Suddenly, in the face of the love he held for his fiance even as he was dying, it made me realize that I needed to hold out for that kind of love. I was still holding him and crying as the ambulance pulled up.

Yes, I can. But since you didn't ask me to do it, only whether I could, I won't.

At least, not yet.
