You didnt have to say all of that, all you had to do was say that you're not interested, and that you're hanging up.

Then hang up.

Problem solved!

NO. They make their living calling us at all hours, bugging us about buying their products, so we should be able to respond in kind and take up their time, getting things off our chest w/o buying what they are selling.Ideally you should get on the no call list and that way if they should call you can say and do anything and they have no recourse.

no...i think it's great...i've also heard of people handing the phone over to small children. that's a good one.

by the way, i was a telemarketer for 2 days, (i hated it), and i learned that you have to SPECIFICALLY SAY "i want my phone number taken off of your list of callers" for them to actually do it. my boss told me if they just say "don't call me anymore", we still call them. some stupid loophole. i quit after i called an old lady in nebraska and asked to speak to her husband, and she started crying on the phone and said he died 6 months ago. i apologized, took her name off the list, and told my boss i quit. that was the last straw...

edit-in reference to 'smiley's' answer, where i worked we were only allowed to hang up if they started cussing at us...if you aren't opposed to that...it works, too.

Good idea. They call and bug you with stupid stuff, so telling them stuff that they don't want to hear is a good idea. I think they are not allowed to hang up until you hang up first. I believe that is a rule that they have.

That wasn't rude. They keep trying to convince you to take whatever they are selling and you have to do something to give the hint to leave you alone!

you did exactly right. the longest i have kept them tied up is 52 minutes. just keep pretending like you want what they have and keep double-talking them. good for you !!!
