forever....

2006-09-29 07:19:08 · answer #1 · answered by mrs michelle 4 · 0 0

It's a semantics question, so there are an endless number of correct answers.

Here's mine:

A piece of string will not last for an eternity because it will exist as a recognizable entity for only a finite time. The string will eventually rot away to nothing.

In a semantics sense, forever usually refers to the present and the future, not the past. For example, "We will love each other forever" is correct, but the phrase "we have loved each other forever" is not.

Eternity is usually thought to include the past as well as the present and future.

So, based on that logic, eternity is longer than forever and a piece of string.

However, I think that it is a trick question, because the length of a piece of string shouldn't be compared to time, which is a different measurement.

A piece of string long enough to reach forever has not been made. Forever lasts only as long as that which it measures lasts. Eternity refers to what? I suspect most would use the term "eternity" to refer to life as it is known.

Well, life as it is known, will in a few hundred thousand years cease to be, when the periodic dissolution of the entire Creation below the pure Spiritual realm occurs, and all life ceases, and the Souls thereof are pulled into a holding state for a period equal to that which was ended.

Of the three, eternity is most closely aligned to reality in that the Souls are eternal, and thus do not cease.

Peace

Forever and Eternity are the same ideas, just said differently, a piece of string however, is not longer than either of these, a piece of string is just a piece of string

Well I found a piece of string in work today and it wasn't very long at all ! Eternity as with romance doesn't always last , so I will have to go with forever .as being longer !

Forever and eternity mean the same thing, but are the longest. A piece of string has a beginning and an end, so it's the shortest.

I would have thought eternity is forever!?!

Where as, the piece of string, is an annoying saying, the piece of string is neither one thing or another, all different lengths, anyone's guess?

Depends on the context

We all want to love that special someone for forever, but that becomes an eternity when we file for divorce and the lawyers get involved.

I have a piece of string on my desk and it looses as it's only 14.5 inches in length.

All about the context.

if you tied the string together to make a ring then it would last forever, so to me they are all the same and is impossible to judge which is longer, but then again it all depends on you, for it could be said that... together forever, be with you for all eternity, will be gone as long as a piece of string....all relate to love, so it doesn't matter how long they go on for, what matters is why you want them to go on...

eternity and forever are the same thing. Any piece of string is limited by the fact that it is a " piece" by the way, are you stoned and wasting time or what?
