Companies can let you go for the lamest of reasons and are justified by doing so. It sucks, but I don't think that you'd be able to take legal action. Of course, I'm a big mouth when I feel I've been treated unfairly. I make people put things in writing, I research laws to see if I actually have a case, I tell as many people as I can about the situation (potential witnesses), and tell important people about it in case they'll be able to help me out somehow. What I suggest is to call your state's labor department and see what the laws say about your situation. They may be able to either provide you with useful information, or direct you to the proper people that can look into your situation. I'm sorry for your job loss, and if karma exists, may they get what 's coming to them!

I would go to the state EEO that's equal employment opportunities office with your written evaluation from last week and place at the very least an inquiry how you could be fired for unsatisfactory work performance after an evaluation which states the opposite without recommendations for improvement, or a clearly written disciplinary report given and signed by you. reaper out..........

Making a personal phone call on company time is a no no and is grounds for being fired. Crying however I guess it depends on what type of job you had, if you were disturbing others, were you able to still do your job... etc ... I've cried at work b4 b/c a close friend of mines passed away but I kept it under wraps and I went to the restroom... But then again I didn't work in the public eye either...

Definitely take legal action. it is often, if not impossible to prove "unsatisfactory work performance" unless you have been formally warned in the past. Ensure you do this, as the compensation for a wrongful dismissal is required and a Bad boss is a Bad boss.... my personal advice, seek legal representation.
Labor lawyer in your area.... it can’t hurt, but also ensure you keep all the "very satisfied" references that they gave you...

WOW...talk about painting with a broad brush. "Unsatisfactory Work Performance" can cover almost every and anything. From what you had to spending too much time in the rest room.
Honestly, you don't have a case. Unless you can pattern sexual harassment, racism or sexism.
Then if you did sue and win, work would be a living hell.

Oh, sad. People can be so mean. Please take this as a sign that there is a better job out there for you. It may have been somewhat unproffessional of you, but I don't think anyone out there is 100% all the time.
People need to have some patience with others. I would have taken you aside to talk if I were your supervisor. Maybe you should have been offered a personal day...

Oh yeah, Those work performance evaluation things are stupid and meaningless, because obviosly they didnt care that you did excellent the first week did they?

i think you are in for a surprise about how awful work places really are. when a new person show up it causes many people to stress over the situation, just like when new neighbors move in next ed door. u have to meet everybody else expectations and you don't even understand anything when you've already been judged and sentenced, sorry you may have open up Pandora's box and you have to have the guts to go back there and get the information so that you understand how this decisions are conducted and how to protect yourself in the work place. burying your self up to your eye ball and having your nose to the grind stone is minimum and traditional it sucks but they set the standards and they are what they are so next time understand how much bang for their bucks in on the line.

when at work you have to become detatched from the outside world....you can get fired just for making personal phone calls (unless it's an emergency).....and crying at work, i know it happens but it makes people uncomfortable, and should not be done in front of others....but i dont think that was the issue. the issue was probably making the phone call non work related in your bosses time

It depends, if it's against company policy to make a personal call then legally they had the right to fire you. I think morally they don't but legally they can
