I don't think there is any free service provided by Yahoo that can backup your hard drive. You can probably can use Yahoo Briefcase to store some small files (<5MB) but not backup your hard drive. You need to look for other solution. And the solution depend on how much data you need to backup and what's the biggest size of all the files. And are you willing to pay for it.

If you want to backup your data in your hard drive everyday, I suggest just buy an external USB harddrive(or internal harddrive) and use some free product to backup to that new hard drive everyday. External is better since you can use that to backup your other harddrive also. And unplug it and put it in a safe place.

Backup by burning the data you want to DVD is good if you only backup once a month or something and data is less than 4GB in size.

Not a good idea to transfer any private files like that. Best to just burn all your files to a CD.

Been down that road. Here was my solution:
Purchase new HD. Remove old HD. Install new HD and reinstall operating system. Connect old HD as slave, retrieve files. Easy.

I would burn to dvds - dvds hold alot more than cd's (4.7 gb for dvd vs. 700 mb for cd).
