Consistent soreness indicates the therapist is putting on more pressure than your muscles are either used to and/or built for. It would be more beneficial in the long term for the therapist to ease off and let muscles adjust to firmer pressure bit by bit, even if 'you' like it. Just as you wouldn't start a marathon without having built up the miles first, so your muscles are 'telling you' they aren't ready for this depth of massage at present.

Ugh, I know exactley what you mean. Happens to me too. One massage therapist that I met years ago reccomended taking 1 or 2 Advil immediately right after the treatment to help with what she called a state of inflamation in the body. It really helps! Those nasty old toxins floating around your blood stream can be a real pain so why suffer needlessly with pain when you don't have too. I also take a calcium/magnesium mixture that night before bed to help sleep better.Beefing up the next day or 2 with some B vitamins will help flush that stuff out faster.Happy deep tissue massaging to ya, lol!

The therapist has brought toxins to the surface of the body. Suggestion would be to drink a lot of water after your massage to help flush the toxins. Usually the second day after a massage, the soreness should begin to alleviate.

What they said to the why, toxins and more. Sometimes it just lets you know where there is a problem, you can further address with exercises like yoga or tai chi-type.. As for the how to prevent besides drinking the water: Get a good massage oil with mineral trace elements// The other day I had a cranial sacral treatment, the guy said he could not go on, I needed massage first. I quickly got out my oils and had him do it. He said I was gonna be real soar, I told him hurt me, I know I wanna really get those energies out, no matter what the short term cost. Had him use tachyonized panther juice I had and NO PAIN. (the day after his girlfriend came like how are you?/ And I heard her report back to him and his relief...I credit the oil..I had him work it hard, he was acting like I was gonna be real handicapped for some days) Also you can get one of them hot products, with cayenne/eucaliptusstyle, all herbal if you can find them..

Anyway soar or not. Getting that stuff out is soo much better then keeping it in. I know something about what those energies are no one really wants to know, believe me you want them gone!!

It's the same principle that comes from being sore after exercising hard. Your muscles release lactic acid after the massage. If you don't drink a lot of water for 24 hours after the massage to flush the lactic acid out of your body, the lactic acid gets released into the blood stream then migrates back into the muscle and causes soreness.

Your masseuse is actually breaking down the pain in your muscle and it is actually healing back to normal.
