I would assume it would have been in Rome when they adopted Christianity - it would have been easier than changing the weekly 'holiday' of being off. The Jewish faith observes the Sabbath on Saturday. The Romans previously worshiped the sun god Sol Invictus on Sunday which makes another example of Christian's adopting Pagan customs.

For different jobs at different times.You will be surprised to know that there was no Sunday holiday for Indian Postal service till late fifties.Believe me, bible have nothing to do with it.If 7th day was supposed to be the day for rest,it was no where mentioned to be Sunday.
